Make a Difference Day Award

On March 31, 2009, we traveled to Columbus because the Ohio Make a Difference Day Organization has chosen our project last October 25, 2008, as one of ten Outstanding Ohio Projects for Make a Difference Day!  Out of 1000 projects across the state, we received an award and got the chance to share our project with the conference attendees gathered to celebrate volunteerism. (Pictures) Last September and October we held several pillow workshops with church members and community volunteers to make over 500 pillows out of flag and camouflage material.  Those pillows are the ones we delivered to the Ohio Veterans Home on Make a Difference Day, and we carried them to each room.  Special thanks go to the Boys and Girls Club of Erie County, the Juvenile Justice Center of Sandusky, and to various Girl Scout Troops in the area for their help with preparing the project!

Eighteen of us attended the ceremony, had the chance to meet Governor Ted Strickland and Ellen Tressel, and enjoyed lunch and fellowship with other winners.  The projects done by others were so neat, and so inspiring.  We are honored to be among them!
