Care and Share of Erie County

Care and Share of Erie County

What Does Care and Share Need Most?

The mission of Care and Share is to serve residents of Erie County who qualify for assistance under Federal guidelines.  Care and Share distributes food, clothing, furniture, appliances, household goods, bedding and linens, and an array of children's toys at no cost to clients.

Clients are given one week's supply of foods per month.  Clothing is given twice a month.  Linens are given on a monitored amount and frequency.  Furniture and appliances are given on a monitored need according to supply.

Care and Share is a public, non-profit agency founded in Sandusky, Ohio, in 1974.  As a cooperative charity of area churches, synagogues, businesses, and generous individuals, it receives contributions of monies and materials for distribution.  The agency is guided by an Executive Director and an Executive Board.  The work goes on with ever increasing intensity to the present time.  The last census report of Erie County revealed that 14% of the residents were living at or under the poverty level.  That translates to 11,100 of our neighbors.  With the current economic factors pressing our region and county these stats are increasing.  Beginning with fiscal year 2004-05 and coming forward to fiscal 2005-06, Care and Share has seen a combined 32% increase in numbers of people served. The first half of the current fiscal year has seen an increase of 11% over the first half of fiscal 2006-07.  Foodstuffs contributed by our community are falling short of what is needed, requiring Care and Share to purchase additional food at an average cost of $2,500.00 per week.

Care and Share is located at 241 Jackson Street inside the building of First Presbyterian Church.  The hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.; and Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Donations are gratefully accepted during this time.
